Designing a Museum Website to Be Better Organized and More Engaging Who Virginia Museum of History & Culture Organization Type Museums and Gardens About Home to a collection of nearly 9 million items, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture is the oldest cultural organization in Virginia and one of the oldest in the nation. Solutions Web Design Technology Drupal Scenario VMHC’s regular rotation of exhibitions covering a wide variety of topics and time periods draws hundreds of thousands of visitors per year. They had been a long-time ongoing support client who renovated and overhauled their programming to national acclaim. They needed a website reflecting their innovation and dedication to the preservation of state and local history. One that wasn’t scattered and difficult for visitors to find information. Solution BackOffice Thinking strategized a design that would create an effective path for visitors to follow. Part of the strategy enabled VMHC to put all their historical content together in a timeline showing “This Month in Virginia History.” Included were options to explore time periods and topics increasing engagement. The new Drupal website design created a coherent experience for the end user while making it easier for the VMHC team to create and update pages.
