Salesforce Global Action for Hope April 4, 2022 by Allie Tabberer Thinking in: CRM/AMS, Salesforce Have you ever been working in Salesforce and run into an annoying problem you’d like to see changed? What about that one process you keep doing that seems like it should be way easier than it is? Do you lose hope because you think there’s just no way to change it or make it better? Ideally, any Salesforce implementation is designed to do exactly what you want it to do, the way you want to do it… but people and organizations change. What worked before may not work now. You could ask for help to get it changed, but often that requires leaving Salesforce and sending an email or an IM to a colleague. Then there’s a back and forth that happens so the Admin can gather the information needed. This kind of friction can be frustrating enough to make users not want to use the system, causing data gaps and bigger problems over time. There is hope for making your Salesforce system work better for you and your organization as a whole! Imagine users providing immediate feedback without leaving the page. Then the Admin follows through, completing the change and communicating the solution. The entire thread is right there in Salesforce for anyone in the future to see as well. The Admin can better serve users and keep the organization as future-proof as possible. It just takes setting up a Global Action. To set this up properly, you’ll need to first add a value to a picklist field on the Task object. Then, create a global action. Finally, you’ll put it on the publisher layout. Don’t be intimidated – this process will take no more than 1 hour, and save your team far more time in the future! When you’re done, you’ll see a new task has been assigned to whomever you put in the “Assigned To” field. First, let’s prepare a home for this feedback! I know that I want this feedback to live on the Task object in Salesforce. In order to enable me to separate out this kind of task from other tasks like a donor call, I’m going to add a new value to the Type picklist, with the text of Salesforce Help. Watch this video to see how I go about this process! Next, let’s create the action! This video will walk you through the process. Finally, we need to make this action visible to our colleagues. Let’s do that by adding it to the Publisher Layout. And it’s done! You can check your work by clicking on the plus sign on any screen in Salesforce, and filling out the pop up. This one simple Global Action can mean the difference between frustration and hope for the future. Users will see how useful Salesforce is for them, leading to better data and engagement overall.
