Helping volunteer English language tutors manage their students with a friendly mobile application.
The Volunteer English Program of Chester County, PA (VEP) approached BackOffice with a grand idea: they wanted to help their volunteer English tutors by creating an app for managing students.
VEP has about 200 tutors who volunteer thousands of hours tutoring immigrants in English and American culture. As with a growing number of nonprofits, tracking volunteer hours is essential for many of their grants. VEP had difficultly obtaining updates from their tutors which required tedious follow up from their staff. They needed to make it very easy for their tutors to input their hours, student goals, and other key information. VEP did have a portal, but it was not effective and not mobile friendly. They needed an optimized experience for mobile users.
The solution resulted in a complete overhaul of the student management experience by taking a mobile-first approach. Now, tutors can easily manage and update their student profiles from their mobile devices at any time. More importantly, all student information updated by the tutor is stored, tracked, and available in real time within CiviCRM, the Volunteer English Program's online constituent management system.
